Project implementation. Led multi-partner initiatives to provide business support services to private firms across their value chains, including business plan writing, marketing support and trade fair participation, and new product development.
Public-private partnerships. Initiated and led industry workgroups to address business environment issues and firm-level barriers to growth through joint public and private sector cooperation. Facilitated constructive dialogue between the government and private sector, guiding agenda formulation and framing key issues.
Competitiveness outreach and training. Engaged local businesses in competitiveness dialogue though national seminars and outreach through media. Conducted competitiveness training, covering topics such as cluster analysis, issue diagnosis tools, business plan writing, market research and analysis, consortia formation, and trade fair participation.

- Aref Adamali works as a regional economist for the World Bank Group, working out of Nairobi and Istanbul. He spent 5 years before this designing and manufacturing furniture. Having previously advised governments and businesses in developing economies on competitiveness and innovation, he applied some of this same advice to his family’s business. He realized that it is harder to implement good advice than to give it. So he is now back to just giving it.
